Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE

The Objective of an AME Training  institute is to provide a student with necessary knowledge, experience and skill on Aircraft Maintenance Techniques in order to pass the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) Licence Examination conducted by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

SCOPE OF APPROVAL

Southern College of Engineering & Technology cover Ab-initio training in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering to Cover Basic Licence in Mechanical Stream (Aero plane & Power Plant) comprising Light Aero plane (LA), Piston Engine (PE) , Heavy Aero plane (HA), Jet Engine (JE).

ABOUT THE COURSE

It is a 3 year (6 semesters) course conducted under the direct supervision of Director General of Civil Aviation (D.G.C.A) Govt. of India.  The course syllabus consists of Aviation Legislation General Engineering and Maintenance Practice, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Materials,  Aircraft / Engine Systems  and On Job Training (OJT) on Heavy Aeroplane, Light Aeroplane.

EXAMINATIONS

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering license examination is conducted by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as per CAR 66 Module. (17 Module).

Basic Examination Standard

1.1  All basic examinations must be carried out using the multiple choice questions.

1.2  The pass mark for CAR-66 module and sub-module multiple choice part of the examination is 75%.

SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS

At the end of every Semester, Examinations will be conducted by the Institute. On successful in the Semester examination, a mark sheet giving details of the marks obtained in each subject will be issued to the students. On successful completion of the training, the Institute shall award a Course Completion Certificate.

QUALIFYING MARKS

The pass mark in each subject is 70%. Candidates who are not successful in passing some subjects of a semester may be re-examined for those subject(s) until they pass the complete semester. AME examination conducted by DGCA can be written only after passing the required semester examinations.

OJT - “ON – JOB - PRACTICAL TRAINING

On completion of Two and Half Years of AME Training and passing all five semester examinations the AME students of this Institute  shall be given On Job Training for a period of six months. The Institute is approved by DGCA to conduct OJT on Learjet 24D (Heavy Aircraft installed with CJ 610 Jet Engine) and on Cessna 152 (Light Aircraft Installed with Lycoming 0-235 Piston Engine).The Chief Instructor shall monitor the OJT provided to the students. Students shall maintain their personal practical training Log book during the OJT and all practical work performed shall be verified and signed by Chief Instructor.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

a. Indian Students

For an AME training course, the candidate should be have passed 10 +2 class in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or a 3 year diploma or equivalent

b. Foreign Students

A certificate issued by the MINISTRY OF EDUCATION of the country of origin in respect of the student passing the higher secondary school examination (10 +2 or equivalent).

NOTE: The students should have passed 10 +2 class Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as in the case of Indian student, failing which, his case for admission would not be considered.

MEDICAL FITNESS

a. Indian Students

The student has to undergo a medical examination  by a doctor, possessing at least an MBBS Degree and required to a produce a certificate to this effect. He will also have to subject himself to a medical examination for color vision by an eye specialist, in the prescribed format. The record of these medical examinations shall be submitted by the student at the time of his admission.

b. Foreign Students

Before admission the student should undergo a thorough medical checkup in any of the medical college located at Trivandrum, Thrissur, and Calicut. He should get the prescribed format from the college and also a report on ELISA TEST, signed by a competent authority of the medical college and submit the same.
