Southern College

The Southern College of Engineering & Technology is one of the pioneers in Aviation Training since 1955. The college is situated at Chalakudy in Thrissur District of Kerala. The campus is ideally located in a 15 acre estate by the banks of the Chalakudy River, about a kilometer from Chalakudy Railway station and K.S.R.T.C Bus stand. Hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls students.

The Objective of an AME institute is to provide a student with necessary knowledge, experience and skill on Aircraft Maintenance Techniques in order to pass the Aircraft  Maintenance Engineering (AME)  license examination conducted by Director General of Civil Aviation (D.G.C.A).

The college is approved by DGCA (Govt. of India) to conduct Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) training in  Mechanical Stream (Heavy Aeroplane, Light Aeroplane, Piston Engine, and Jet Engine).

The Training programme consists of Theoretical and Practical training in various Aircraft Maintenance Engineering subjects which includes General Engineering & Maintenance Practices, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structure and Systems, Aero Engines, Propulsion System, Basic Electrical and Avionics Systems. Total curriculum is divided in to class room instructions and associated practical for five semesters and On Job Training (OJT) in the last semester. The OJT shall be provided on Learjet 24D (Heavy Aircraft, Serviceable with  both engines in running condition and all Instruments  & Systems functioning ) and on Cessna 152 ( Light Aircraft , Serviceable with engine in running condition).

The Institute has well equipped Classroom and Workshop Facilities for training the students in General Engineering Practices and Aircraft Maintenance Practices. The Institute has well-stocked Library which is being replenished constantly with advanced and latest technical books on various subjects for reference.

The Faculty consists of highly qualified and experienced professionals headed by the Chief Instructor who is approved by the DGCA.  The Present Chief Instructor is a retired Deputy Director of Airworthiness from DGCA. He has 38 years of Aviation Experience in Aircraft Maintenance/Quality Control/Instructional/ Airworthiness. Majority of the instructors are either Type rated AME Licence holders on Modern Aircraft or Pre- CAR 66 Basic AME Licence holders in Categories HA/ LA/ JE/ PE/ ES/ IS/ RN.
